Best Solitaire Games Without Ads: 7 Picks and How Each Goes Ad-Free

Seven ways to play solitaire without ads, sorted by how each one removes them: a one-time unlock, a paid app, Apple Arcade, a subscription or free open-source software.

The solitaire apps with no ads at all are the ones you pay for in some way. On iPhone, iPad or Mac, Flipflop Solitaire from Zach Gage is the cheapest route: its developer removed ads completely in September 2025, and the full game is a $2.99 unlock. Solitaire Stories and the other Apple Arcade card games have no ads and no in-app purchases, because Arcade does not allow them. On a Windows PC or Mac, Pretty Good Solitaire is a paid-once app with more than 1,000 games, and on Linux AisleRiot is free and open source. Microsoft Solitaire Collection and Solitaire by MobilityWare are free with ads, and both sell a subscription to switch them off. Solitaire Castle Royal, which is ours, is also free with ads, and a one-time purchase removes the forced ones.

Android is where this gets thin. None of the apps that are ad-free out of the box has an Android version we could verify, so Android players are choosing between paying to remove ads and putting up with them.

How we chose these games

We make one of the games on this list, and it shows ads, so the tests had to be ones it could fail.

  • The developer has to say it. A game made the list only if its own store listing or website states there are no ads, or states how to remove them. Review sites and Reddit threads did not count.
  • The mechanism is named. For every pick we say how the ads go away: never there, paid upfront, a one-time unlock, an Apple Arcade subscription, or an in-app subscription. Those cost very different amounts over a year.
  • Prices only from the listing. Where a listing shows a price we quote it, dated October 16, 2026. Where two parts of a listing disagree, we leave the price out.
  • Still available and still working. We note when a game has not been updated in a long time. We dropped Simple Solitaire Collection on F-Droid, which is open source and ad-free but has had no release since July 2018.
  • No ratings or download counts. They change weekly and say little about ads.

Ad-free from the moment you install

Flipflop Solitaire, ad-free on Apple devices for a $2.99 unlock

Flipflop used to carry ads, and then its developer took them out. The App Store release notes for version 1.6.1, dated September 24, 2025, say: "We’ve removed ads completely from this game." What is left to buy is a Full Game Unlock at $2.99 and optional packs of 200 more deals at $1.99 each. The rules are a twist on Spider: you can build a pile up or down, but you can only move a stack that is all one suit. Recent updates added iCloud save syncing, and it runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple silicon Macs and Apple Vision.

The catch is that this is not the solitaire most people mean. If you want Klondike exactly as Windows taught it, Flipflop will feel like a different game, because it is one. There is also no Android version. There is a separate Apple Arcade edition, Flipflop Solitaire+, but its last update was December 2023, so the regular app is the one to get unless you already pay for Arcade.

Solitaire Stories and Apple Arcade, ad-free by policy

Apple Arcade is the one place where "no ads" is a rule rather than a promise from each developer. Apple’s Arcade page says it plainly: "No ads. No in-app purchases. No interruptions." The subscription is $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year, it can be shared with up to five family members, and new Apple devices come with three months free.

Solitaire Stories from Red Games is the Arcade solitaire with the most going on: Klondike in draw one or draw three, Spider in one, two or four suits, TriPeaks, online multiplayer, and story chapters that each bring their own deck and soundtrack. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Vision, and it was updated on October 7. If you only want the classic games, MobilityWare publishes Arcade editions of its own apps: Solitaire by MobilityWare+ for Klondike and Spider Solitaire: Card Game+, both carrying the same "No ads. No in-app purchases." line.

Two limitations. Arcade is a subscription, so you keep paying for as long as you want to keep playing, and it only makes sense if you would use the rest of the catalog. And none of these listings says whether the games work offline, so we do not promise that they do. Our games like Solitaire Stories guide covers the story side in more depth.

Pretty Good Solitaire, pay once on PC or Mac

Goodsol Development sells Pretty Good Solitaire the old-fashioned way: you pay for the program and that is the whole business model. The developer’s score pages list the Windows version at US $24.95, with version 22.2 from May 2024 carrying 1,080 games. On Apple devices it is a $24.99 Mac app, a $9.99 iPad app and a $1.99 iPhone app called Pretty Good Solitaire Mini. None of the Apple listings shows any in-app purchases, and the iPad listing states the developer collects no data from the app. If you want hundreds of patience variants, from Klondike and FreeCell to games most apps have never heard of, nothing else here comes close.

Its weak point is age. The iPad version was last updated in November 2021 and the iPhone version in January 2022, so treat the mobile apps as finished rather than maintained. The Windows version is sold through the developer’s own site rather than an app store, and there is no Android version.

AisleRiot, free and open source on Linux

AisleRiot is the GNOME Project’s solitaire collection, and its Flathub page lists more than 80 games, playable with a mouse, keyboard or trackpad. It is open-source software maintained by the GNOME Project, with no store, no account and nothing to sell, so there is nothing for an ad to pay for. The most recent tagged release on GNOME’s GitLab is 3.22.35, from January 2025.

Reach is the problem. It is a Linux desktop app, so it is no help on a phone, a Chromebook without Linux turned on, or a Windows PC.

Free with ads, and a way to switch them off

Microsoft Solitaire Collection, the familiar five with a Premium subscription

Microsoft’s app has Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, TriPeaks and Pyramid, with daily challenges, events and a Microsoft account to carry progress between devices. The free version shows ads. The App Store listing sells an ad-free Premium tier as a subscription that renews monthly or annually.

Three limitations. Premium is a recurring cost, and the App Store listing says "Solitaire Premium is available for mobile only", so do not assume a phone subscription covers the Windows app. Both store listings say a persistent internet connection is required. And in July 2026, several threads on Microsoft’s own Q&A forum reported Premium subscribers seeing ads again; community answers called it a backend problem that usually cleared within days.

Solitaire by MobilityWare, three versions with different answers

With MobilityWare’s Klondike app, how you get rid of the ads depends on which version you open. The free iOS app sells Premium Status in one, three, six and twelve month terms, and its listing says Premium removes both ad interruptions and banners. The Arcade edition, Solitaire by MobilityWare+, has no ads at all. An older paid version for $4.99 is still listed and promises no ads, but its last update was in May 2020.

The limitation is that the clean answer is iOS only. The Google Play listing is marked as containing ads and in-app purchases, and its description does not mention a way to remove ads, so we cannot tell Android players what they will find in the store. On iOS, Premium is a subscription, and the listing gives two different prices for the yearly term, so check the purchase screen before you commit.

Solitaire Castle Royal, a one-time purchase on Android and iOS

This is our game, and it is not ad-free when you install it. Castle Royal is free and shows video ads between levels and banner ads during play. A one-time purchase, the No Ads Lifetime Pack, removes both for good, with no subscription, and it stays with your Google Play, Apple or Amazon account if you reinstall. Optional rewarded ads stay: you can choose to watch one for a booster or coins, and they never play on their own. Our how to stop ads help article shows where the pack sits in the store.

Behind the ads is a TriPeaks game with 14,000+ levels, new ones every month, no coin cost to start any level, and every level winnable without power-ups. Players who finish them all move into Kings League. It runs on iOS, Android and Chromebook, and on Windows PC through Google Play Games, and it has 1M+ players. That platform list is the main reason it is here: it is one of the few ways on this page for an Android player to pay once and stop seeing forced ads.

Here is where it loses. Flipflop, Pretty Good Solitaire and AisleRiot never show you an ad in the first place, and Arcade games never will. With Castle Royal you see ads until you pay, and the rewarded ones remain as an option after that. It is also TriPeaks only, so it does not replace a Klondike or Spider app.

Picking one

  • On iPhone or iPad and happy to try new rules? Flipflop Solitaire, for a one-time $2.99.
  • Already pay for Apple Arcade, or would use more of it? Solitaire Stories, or Solitaire by MobilityWare+ for plain Klondike.
  • Want hundreds of variants on a Windows PC or Mac? Pretty Good Solitaire, paid once.
  • On Linux? AisleRiot, free.
  • Must have Microsoft’s five classic games and always have a connection? Microsoft Solitaire Collection with Premium, accepting a subscription.
  • On Android and want to pay once rather than subscribe? Solitaire Castle Royal, which is ours, accepting that it is TriPeaks only and has ads until you buy the pack.

Count what the ad-free version costs over a year before you pick. A one-time unlock or a paid app costs the same in year three as in year one, while an Arcade or Premium subscription keeps charging for as long as you play. If you would rather avoid timers as well as ads, our guide to relaxing solitaire games without timers sorts the same apps by that.
